SUMMARY:Park Talk Series
DESCRIPTION:Photography Adventures & Lessons from the Wild: Join award-winning wildlife photographer Jo-Anne Oucharek for an inspiring and story-rich presentation that blends breathtaking imagery with real-world lessons learned through a decade of photographing wildlife across Canada and beyond. From birds in her own backyard to remote wilderness adventures in Churchill\, Alaska\, the Great Bear Rainforest\, and the Khutzeymateen\, Jo-Anne shares how photography became more than a creative outlet—it became a way to connect deeply with nature and advocate for its protection. This engaging talk goes behind the lens to explore the experiences\, challenges\, and breakthroughs that shaped her photographic journey. Guests will hear personal stories from the field\, learn how patience and preparation create extraordinary wildlife encounters\, and discover how ethical wildlife photography begins with one guiding principle: nature must always come first. Through vivid storytelling and powerful images\, Jo-Anne highlights the key lessons that helped her grow—from mastering camera settings and understanding animal behaviour\, to working with guides\, building community with fellow photographers\, learning post-processing\, and finding the courage to share her work with the world through exhibitions and competitions. Whether you are a photographer\, a nature lover\, or simply curious about the wild places of Canada\, this presentation will leave you inspired to slow down\, observe more closely\, and see wildlife not just as subjects—but as resilient\, living beings worth protecting. Expect breathtaking images\, heartfelt stories\, practical insight\, and a deeper appreciation for the wild world around Cochrane and beyond.

SUMMARY:Park Talk Series
DESCRIPTION:The Ancient Trails Project is a three-part journey of exploration\, archaeology\, and hands-on reconstruction. Beginning with a 90-kilometre trek along an ancient First Nations trade and hunting route from Lake Louise to the Red Deer River foothills\, the project uncovered pit house sites and dozens of archaeological locations in breathtaking wilderness. \nInspired by these discoveries\, a life-size pit house replica was built using archaeological field notes and traditional methods. The final phase involved living in the structure through fall and winter\, testing heating\, ventilation\, and daily life inside this remarkable dwelling. \nThis presentation shares an evocative story of adventure\, discovery\, and what it may have been like to live in these ancient homes thousands of years ago. \nFeaturing: Lorne Perry

SUMMARY:Park Talk Series
DESCRIPTION:THE SECRET MARATHON \nIn 2016\, Martin Parnell went on a journey that many believed was madness: running a marathon in Afghanistan in a quest to fight for women’s rights and gender equality. Of course\, this was not the first time he had been called crazy. In 2010 he had run 250 marathons in one year\, and in 2013 he had climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in 21 hours. Those two endeavours were part of his “Quest for Kids” initiative\, which raised $1.3-million for the humanitarian organization Right To Play and gave the gift of hope to over 27\,000 children around the world. It was while recovering from a rare and life-threatening blood clot on his brain that Martin had read about Zainab\, the first woman to run a marathon in Afghanistan. He was so inspired by her story that he decided that if he was able to recover from his illness he would run with her at the next “Marathon of Afghanistan” in support of rights for girls and women. In The Secret Marathon\, audience members will be transported to a country of beauty\, hardship and complexity\, sharing in the despair\, resilience and friendliness of the Afghan people as they strive for freedom and equality for themselves and their fellow citizens. \n  \nMartin works with Organizations and Associations to develop a “Finish The Race Attitude: Set Goals\, Overcome Obstacles and Achieve Outstanding Results”.  He is an International Keynote and TEDx Speaker\, Workshop Facilitator\, Philanthropist\, Author and Multi Guinness World Record holder. \nMartin sets goals and achieves them including running 250 marathons in one year\, setting five Guinness World Records in endurance events and summiting Mount Kilimanjaro in 21 hours. \nMartin has published three books and is Executive Producer of “THE SECRET MARATHON” documentary. Now is the time to achieve your goal!
