Ron Maher

I am a biologist who retired five years ago after four decades working in conservation. I spent most of my career with Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) protecting, restoring and managing wetland and associated grassland ecosystems across Canada. My roles ranged from field work in the early days to managing staff in a variety of offices (including being the provincial manager of conservation programs in Ontario and Alberta). I have extensive experience in strategically planning and implementing science-based conservation programs as well as human resources, financial administration and government relations. During my time with DUC I spent a decade in development program leadership roles. A highlight during this time was helping lead two continent wide fundraising campaigns that generated over 3.3 billion dollars for conservation in Canada, the United States and Mexico.

I am keen on the outdoors and take advantage of the extensive rivers and wetlands in Alberta has to offer. My spouse Heather is a retired university fundraiser. We have two dogs and a horse who seem to have an oversized influence on our lives.
