Park Talk Series

The Ancient Trails Project is a three-part journey of exploration, archaeology, and hands-on reconstruction. Beginning with a 90-kilometre trek along an ancient First Nations trade and hunting route from Lake Louise to the Red Deer River foothills, the project uncovered pit house sites and dozens of archaeological locations in breathtaking wilderness.
Inspired by these discoveries, a life-size pit house replica was built using archaeological field notes and traditional methods. The final phase involved living in the structure through fall and winter, testing heating, ventilation, and daily life inside this remarkable dwelling.
This presentation shares an evocative story of adventure, discovery, and what it may have been like to live in these ancient homes thousands of years ago.
