Summer Camp Counselor
Are you looking for an opportunity to spend your summer in the beautiful Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park while being an integral part of the education programming that supports Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation’s mission?
The Summer Camp Counselors are an integral part of the GRPF summer camps team. Through play, curiosity, a sense of adventure and the ability to be a positive role model for the GRPF summer campers this is a rewarding summer job for individuals who love to be outside and love to work with children.
Contract Term: May 20th – August 22nd, 2025

Duties & Responsibilities
- Implementation of the daily camp programs for children ages 5-13 years.
- Ensure the health and safety of the children participating in the camp program.
- Create a fun, experience-rich, physically active, and educational day camp experience for all campers.
- Monitor and provide care for the children participating in the camp program.
- Provide and actively participate in all camp-related activities (i.e. nature hikes, bike rides, games, crafts)
- Implement required tasks, such as set up and clean-up and other day-to-day camp operations as directed by the Lead Camp Counselor, and Coordinator.
- Act as a positive role model and leader at all times
- Encourage camp participants to follow proper hygiene and cleanliness.
- Build positive relationships with camp staff, participants, and parents and/or caregivers.
- To follow all policies and procedures as required.
- Assist in day to day running of school field trips prior to summer camp start date.
- Other duties as assigned.
What you bring
- A passion for working with children.
- At least 2 years background in natural history, environmental studies, tourism, recreation/leisure, art/drama, and / or education acquired via university, college or equivalent work experience.
- High Five Training and experience in supporting children with additional needs is an asset.
- Standard First Aid with CPR C certification
- The ability to present information about nature and nature conservation in an entertaining and educational manner.
- A background in any of the following is an additional asset: leading tours, storytelling, leading sing-a-longs, leading games and activities, art and drama including creative design, pioneering / outdoor crafts, navigating and geocaching using maps, compass and GPS units, and / or presenting environmental outdoor education programs.
- Ability to ride a bike, and a good level of physical fitness.
- Demonstrated excellence in classroom management and student engagement.
- Knowledge of the Glenbow history of Alberta is an asset.
- Demonstrable engaging oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrable commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
Other Requirements:
- Successful candidates must provide a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Persons search prior to their first day of work.
- Candidates must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Must be age 18 – 30

The Summer Camp Lead Counselor is an integral role in the GRPF summer camps. This role provides leadership to the summer camp counselors, support to the program’s coordinator, and creates inclusive environments for all campers.
Contract Term: May 1st – August 22nd, 2025

Duties & Responsibilities
- As the 1st point of contact, provide supervision, instruction, and ongoing assistance to summer camp staff, campers, and volunteers during programs.
- Assign/oversee staff tasks (set up/take down of equipment/supplies, etc.); supervise campers and implement assigned programs.
- Responsible for assessing and making recommendations to the Program & Events Coordinator as to program equipment and supply needs; monitors safety of all aspects of program and campers.
- Assist in the care, cleanliness, and security of the facility used by campers during the program.
- Communicate all pertinent issues affecting programs to Program & Events Coordinator (i.e. staff/client/ parent/transportation issues/concerns, etc.), in a timely manner.
- Participate in all required training and certifications in compliance with our standards.
- Communicate clearly, honestly, and respectfully with staff, campers, parents, and volunteers.
- Establish a good rapport with families of the program campers as well as keeping them informed about concerns affecting the campers.
- Create a nurturing, positive, and professional environment while promoting program policies and procedures amongst staff, volunteers, campers & families.
- Responsible for ensuring all camper information is collected and kept confidentially within the CRM system.
- Provide Camp staff with proper reporting each week. (I.E attendance sheets, important medical information)
- Assist in day to day running of school field trips prior to summer camp start date.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Support in producing promotional material and marketing programs
What you bring
- A passion for working with children.
- Experience in supervising staff
- At least 2 years background in natural history, environmental studies, tourism, recreation/leisure, art/drama, and /or education acquired via university, college or equivalent work experience.

- Experience working with children/youth 5-14 years old; experience in a camp setting is preferred.
- Standard First Aid with CPR C certification.

Vegetation Management Field Assistant
Are you passionate about the environment with a strong interest in protecting and learning about our native grassland ecosystem? The Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation is looking for a summer student to work as a Vegetation Management Field Assistant.
The successful candidate will work as part of a team in undertaking invasive plant control and conservation programs in Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park* for the Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation.
Contract Term: May 20, 2025 – August 29, 2025
Positions Available: 1
Remuneration: $20/hour (based on a 40-hour work week)
Responsibilities include:
- Participation in the implementation of the invasive plant control program at Glenbow Ranch.
- Data collection of invasive plants and other species.
- Involvement with various other conservation projects.
- General maintenance activities will be required.
- Assistance with GRPF educational programs & visitor experiences.
- Working in conjunction with the Government of Alberta staff to meet work schedules and goals.
- Collaborating with our amazing volunteers on various projects.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Working towards or having completed a degree or diploma in environmental science, conservation, or a related field.
- Must be under 30 (for grant purposes)
- Plant identification skills including knowledge of basic terminology and plant parts.
- Physically fit (a level of physical fitness conducive to taking on fieldwork activities that include lifting moderate loads, walking, and strength and flexibility required for biological fieldwork).
- Experience working outdoors (e.g., landscaping) and willing and able to work in all kinds of weather.
- Experience using systems and software such as Windows, word processing, spreadsheets, GPS, and GIS.
- Class 5 operators’ license.
- Ability to work independently and have demonstrated the ability to work as part of an interactive group.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, accuracy, and strong attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with volunteers, lead programs and interact positively with members of the public.
Any of the following would be considered definite assets:
- Advanced plant identification skills such as the ability to key out species and the ability to spot identify invasive plants.
- Bird identification skills.
- Pesticide applicator assistant license or full pesticide applicators license.
If successful in competition must produce:
- A criminal record and vulnerable sector check (obtained from “home” police department), and driver abstract on the first day of work.
- Valid First Aid & CPR certification.

Visitor Experience Facilitator
Are you looking for an opportunity to spend your summer in the beautiful Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park while being an integral part of the Visitor Experience Team that supports Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation’s mission?
As the Visitor Experience Facilitator, you will have a great appreciation for the natural beauty & history of Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park and your role is to be the champion of Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation through interacting with the park visitors, promoting summer camps, and tours, answering questions and providing educational opportunities to visitors through interpretive talks. The Visitor Experience Facilitator is the point of contact for facility bookings, our champions out in the community through mobile visitor centers at markets & in person at the park in the visitor information center.
Responsibilities include:
- Facilitating visitor experiences at Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park (golf cart tours, guided walks, birding tours, history tours, table talks, & supporting special events)
- Visitor Information Center
- Keeping the visitor information center clean.
- Interacting with visitors- answering inquiries, providing up-to-date park information, & selling GRPF merchandise
- Promotion of fundraising events, programs, summer camps, & donor opportunities.
- Money handling
- Program, tour registrations
- Mobile Visitor Center- set up/take down, GRPF merchandise sales, provide information about the park, & promote programs and donor opportunities.
- Support in all facility bookings – booking facilities, facility pre/post inspections, cleaning, & rental support if required.
- Provide other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Ability to work independently and have demonstrated the ability to work as part of an interactive group.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, accuracy and strong attention to detail are required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with volunteers, lead programs and interact positively with members of the public.
- Comfortable with CRM systems
- Microsoft skills are an asset.
- Must be under 30 (for grant purposes)

Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park is situated along the north banks and escarpments of the Bow Valley Corridor between Calgary and Cochrane. It is one of Alberta’s newest provincial parks, protecting various natural and cultural resources. Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation is co- developing the Park with the Province.
