The Summer Camp Counselors are an integral part of the GRPF summer camps team. Through play, curiosity, a sense of adventure and the ability to be a positive role model for the GRPF summer campers this is a rewarding summer job for individuals who love to be outside and love to work with children.

Contract Term: May 20th – August 22nd, 2025

Positions Available: 4

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Implementation of the daily camp programs for children ages 5-13 years.
  • Ensure the health and safety of the children participating in the camp program.
  • Create a fun, experience-rich, physically active, and educational day camp experience for all campers.
  • Monitor and provide care for the children participating in the camp program.
  • Provide and actively participate in all camp-related activities (i.e. nature hikes, bike rides, games, crafts)
  • Implement required tasks, such as set up and clean-up and other day-to-day camp operations as directed by the Lead Camp Counselor, and Coordinator.
  • Act as a positive role model and leader at all times
  • Encourage camp participants to follow proper hygiene and cleanliness.
  • Build positive relationships with camp staff, participants, and parents and/or caregivers.
  • To follow all policies and procedures as required.
  • Assist in day to day running of school field trips prior to summer camp start date.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you bring

  • A passion for working with children.
  • At least 2 years background in natural history, environmental studies, tourism, recreation/leisure, art/drama, and / or education acquired via university, college or equivalent work experience.
  • High Five Training and experience in supporting children with additional needs is an asset.
  • Standard First Aid with CPR C certification
  • The ability to present information about nature and nature conservation in an entertaining and educational manner.
  • A background in any of the following is an additional asset: leading tours, storytelling, leading sing-a-longs, leading games and activities, art and drama including creative design, pioneering / outdoor crafts, navigating and geocaching using maps, compass and GPS units, and / or presenting environmental outdoor education programs.
  • Ability to ride a bike, and a good level of physical fitness.
  • Demonstrated excellence in classroom management and student engagement.
  • Knowledge of the Glenbow history of Alberta is an asset.
  • Demonstrable engaging oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrable commitment to providing exceptional customer service.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful candidates must provide a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Persons search prior to their first day of work.
  • Candidates must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Must be age 18 – 30

Salary: $18.00 per hour

Flexible Language Requirement:

  • French not required.

Schedule:

  • 8-hour shift
  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Occasional evening / weekend hours may be required.

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • COCHRANE, AB: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required). A vehicle is required to access the park.
